The new Pages is, without question, only related in name to its predecessor. The app’s list of is significant: It has limited page-layout capabilities, no linked text boxes, you can’t customize the toolbar, it has almost no AppleScript support, no style drawer, and lacks file-level compatibility with Pages ‘09. Honestly, the list of what’s missing could go on and on.

To test the browser’s pause/resume downloads feature, I downloaded a Mac OS Security patch over several hours, pausing and restarting randomly while browsing various sites. Beta 1 drugs. The built-in ad and pop-up blocking feature functioned well during testing, and Camino even blocked pop-ups from plug-ins like Flash. And Camino’s Gecko layout engine is fast and error-free the first time it accesses graphic-intensive Web pages, as well as when reviewing pages through cached history. • Improved support for Arabic and Hebrew. Redtail47 I’ve been using Apple products for about 12 years now, and I have to say that Pages for IPad is one of the worst Apps I’ve used. It has always had weird temporary problems, but also lots of very consistent ones too. For example if I’m typing fast and hit 2 Keys almost at the same time it highlights a chunk of my paragraph and with my next keystroke deletes it.

Let me state this from the start: If you’ve been using Pages ‘09’s more sophisticated page-layout features, is not the app for you. Pages 5.0 is not an upgrade, it is a brand new application and it is not (yet) the Pages you’ve been waiting for. This may make you sad; everyone wants something shiny and new. But don’t be— still works and you can use that for now.

I even reduced as many features as possible and it has a ton of latency on my iPad 4 (no that's not that old->fast enough to play vainglory no problem. No speed problems searching the internet). I have 1 page documents that have 2 columns and the latency is atrocious.

Titles are now somehow in the same row as the text and even after i fix it by separating the two-->but wait! I open the document and they are on top of each other again. This is ridiculous.

(And, yes, I have submitted these feedback requests multiple times!). In many ways, Pages is a joy to use, but it lacks just a few small features to make it really great. Ironically, most of the missing features would find very broad use in academia and I had hoped today's event would be the perfect time to (re-)introduce them: (1) Line numbering--This is required by vitually all journals to which academics submit manuscripts, not to mention by lawyers and other groups, but Pages still cannot sequentially number lines throughout a documents. It is irritating to have to move the manuscript to MS Word just to number the stupid lines! (2) Non-contiguous selection--this was present in the 'old' Pages but has not appeared since.

It does take some time to figure out how everything works if you’ve used word ever since computers were a thing. I do have to say it seems a bit less practical than Word for certain things, but for other, I have found myself being more practical. Since it does take a couple of days to get used to it, it might seem like it doesn’t compare to Word in the beginning, which is why I gave up on it a couple of times. It was when word crashed and didn’t save my extensive nursing school notes that I finally gave up on it.

The issue mostly arises when exporting a document to Word format. Limited page views: There is no way to view pages side by side in this version of the app. While this may not be an issue for many users, anyone who prefers working with this arrangement or who deals with creating two-page layouts may find it frustrating.

Or use a blank document and create your own design. Easily add images, movies, charts and shapes. And use comments, change tracking, and highlights to review your work.

If you must, you can go the lazy route, select 'No Cover' in the Cover section, and let iBooks generate a generic cover with just the title and author name. Alternately, you can make the first page of the ebook your cover. Pages offers a Novel template with a cool-looking cover whose image and title you can adjust to your liking. Weirdly, though, the aforementioned 1024x768 page size isn't anywhere close to the recommended cover sizes for iBooks (1600x2400) or Kindle (1563x2500) files. So an image that completely fills a page in Pages might not do the job in a finished ebook. I much preferred the 'Choose an image' option.

Many have complained about the font shortage. That is definitely a true issue, but my biggest complaint is the compatibility. When I import docs from Office to iWork there are also issues (background color or font color changes in keynote, drop down menus change in numbers, etc.) Please, please, please do something to improve this. I love playing with the templates and creating beautiful items that everyone thinks I'm a great graphical genius, but if the rest of the office can't see them, using/buying these apps is pointless. I absolutely LOVE pages, numbers and keynote.

Most of the time, I have to send my masterpieces that I spend hours on back to the office where everyone uses Office, so before I do, I have to send the document to myself so I can see what changes were made in Office and then make it look as close to what I originally created as possible. Sometimes eventually it’d work, other times I’d just have to do it on my laptop. That went on for years.

My one real gripe with this part of the process: It's not quite what-you-see-is-what-you-get. By default, Pages sets its blank book template to the equivalent of 1024x768 resolution — a common screen size for Kindles, and the minimum resolution found on pre-Retina iPads. But for reflowable ebooks on different-sized screens, this won't always accurately show you how your final book will look, and there's no way to preview your finished ebook without publishing it. From Pages to published Once you're happy with formatting, select File > Export To > EPUB to bring up the export dialog box. It's a snap to specify title and author; if you want to add category and language information, you'll find them hiding under the Advanced Options section. Since most people do, alas, judge a book by its cover, you'll probably want one for your ebook.

First, it allows higlighting multiple portions of text or numbers at a time and then editing them all at once (for example, if I want to make all the numerical references in a body of text superscript, I can simply highlight all of the numbers and with one click, edit them all at the same time). The current “upgrade” of pages still requires the user to edit each number or portion of text one by one, even if you wish to do the same thing for each portion of text. Not efficient at all, and very laborious.
