Today I show you guys how I install custom content for the Sims 4 on my Mac laptop. I also give a few CC tips as well as where I find most of my CC. I believe it was back in The Sims 2 when users began noticing that if you have files in your mods folder with special characters (like @ $ #, etc.) in their name, it would slow down the game's loading screen. This still happens in The Sims 4, so the easiest way to avoid long loading times when downloading mods, is to rename any files and delete any special characters in the title.
Always be sure to check for this before downloading. Download and Install Custom content is created and distributed in.package form. When downloading content already in.package form, simply place them into the Mods folder for use.
All you have to do at this point is drag and drop the mods you downloaded into this Mods folder. Now, the next time you start the game up, you should see a message that says all of the ones that are enabled and working with the game. Every single time the game updates, though, it will disable the settings in the Game Options that you enabled, so make sure they turn back on each time Maxis releases an update!
Now you'll need to navigate to your Sims 4 Mods folder. To do this, go to Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods.
TIP: You can create sub-folders within the Mods folder to keep your content organized Removing Custom Content To remove Custom Content, delete the files directly from the Mods folder. If you would like to save and transfer your content for The Sims 4 Base Game, remove the mods folder and place it on your desktop. You can then replace the folder once you have installed the game.
It’s unnecessary waiting time in my opinion. • – if you like sims photography, or just like looking at the worlds, then this one is definitely a good one to download. • – I can’t be the only one who finds the constant moving around of sims while talking annoying? • – allows you to get closer to your seems for those ultra close/creepy shots! • – and I really mean anything. They have a lot of base game mesh edits and a lot of mods that are really useful. I would however recommend using the No Fade on Columns from them, which you can get.
Some mods and installs may end in extensions other than.package, so be sure to follow instructions from the creator when installing these types of files. While individual.package files can be downloaded and installed into the mods folder as is, you may encounter content downloads in.ZIP or.RAR form. These types of files must be opened using a data compression utility such as or, and then used to extract the.package files from within.
This is pretty simple to do. Make a new folder on your desktop and just call it 'Test Mods' or something similar.
Inside the “Mods” folder you will find the resource.cfg file which enables the use of 3rd party content. This file should remain inside the Mods folder at all times. If you should ever hard delete or lose this file (or mods folder), the game will automatically generate a new one the next time you boot up the game.

Lots are the name for houses or any types of venues that your Sims can visit in the game. You can also download custom lots to add to your game on various Sims CC websites. Installing and downloading lots is basically the same process as above, except you place these files in a place in your Sims 4 folder.

Follow all the instructions above, but once you extract your files, paste them into Documents > Electronics Arts > The Sims 4 > Tray. Any download that ends in.bpi,.blueprint or.trayitem belongs in the Tray folder ONLY. When you open up your game, you'll need to go the Gallery (click on the icon of the photos in the top right corner), then click on My Library.

I only played around with it for maybe 3-4 minutes and I didn’t see anything other than the new Lot Types, so I’m afraid I can’t help you with that one, sorry!
I don't believe 7zip works on mac IIRC. I use TheUnarchiver. Oh okay, i use both mac and pc and i thought i had it on mac.
This doesn't really do anything special during the gameplay, but it allows me to easily find content in my folders, install new content, and delete or update old content. You can organise your Mods folder in any way which makes the most sense to you! You can do it by creator, by categories (like shoes, clothes, hair, etc.), or functionality (buy mode, script mods, etc.). Keeping your Mods folder organised is highly recommended, just for easier installation/un-installation of Mods as you play The Sims 4.
Remember, you should only see files ending in.package or.ts4script in your mods folder. If the files are ending in.zip,.rar., or any other file type, they won't work in your game! • While you're online, go into Origin and repair your game. You can do this by clicking on The Sims 4 in your library, selecting the Settings button, and then clicking on Repair Game (please note that you must not be playing the game when you select this option). The game will then repair itself and basically do a fresh install of the files needed to run The Sims 4. It won't damage your save game, and this has actually fixed broken CC (particularly issues with script mods) for me in the past. • Try deleting your.cache files.
Check the page you downloaded the mod from and then delete and reinstall the new version, if necessary. Sims websites like SimsVIP also keep a running tab of. • Remember that game mods and custom content are designed to work with genuine versions of The Sims 4. There is no guarantee that they will work with pirated versions of the game, so if you do have a pirated version and a mod isn't working, that could be why. The only way to fix this would be to buy a copy of The Sims 4 directly from Origin, where you can ensure the game will be patched regularly and compatible with all mods and custom content.
