Lds Paf Download For Mac
Does anyone know anything about the Mac friendly version of PAF that Logan Allred was working on a couple of years ago? I think it might have changed the name to MAF but that is about all I know about it. Paf free download - Paf Poker, Paf Casino, PAF Recording Studio, and many more programs. I hope this post is not inappropriate if so just delete it. Thanks Roger If you do write a new program, I would suggest you consider using Java. Then, the same program could be useful and be used on several different platforms with just a little care in the design and coding, and maybe an incremental bit of debugging for any platform-specific issues. Alternatively, there is at least one graphics toolkit that claims to be cross-platform for use in programs written in C. Thank you for considering the suggestion(s). Sgtbob - Another great option that is very similar to Fusion and Parallels is call Virtual Box by Sun Microsystems.
I have the program but I can’t find all my information. I had thousands upon thousands of names and personal information. I spent 47 years gathering the information.
Even my flash drive doesn’t work. I tried using the flash drive to upload on my computer. I also use Roots Magic and Legacy but I still prefer PAF. I guess I’m old school. Biggest Pro: Easy to use and no one else can make changes to your data.
Darwine is a project to get Wine working on Darwin (OSX) in a user friendly-ish way. Developer tools are not required. You will need Apple's X11 installed, and OSX version 10.4.
Biggest Con: That it’s not available for us. Personal Ancestral File (PAF) Review by Phil Carter, Sep 7, 2017 Rating For what it’s worth: have been using the LDS Personal Ancestral File program for many years, and I have yet to find a substitute that even comes close to PAF 5. I still have it on my Windows laptop - don’t have an installation disk because LDS offered it as downloadable from their website - but I subsequently switched to Mac a few years ago. Looks as if I may have to go back to my clunker of a laptop in order to use PAF 5 again. I used Wineskin to install it on my iMac, and it worked like a charm.
Personal Ancestral File, aka PAF, was a very popular genealogy application for many years, whose development dates back to the 1980s, and for some genealogists, it was the only program they would use. I still get questions about it here in 2015. There hasn’t been a new official version available for the Mac (Macintosh) platform for over 20 years, and the last version for Mac only runs under the “Classic” Mac environment (up through OS 9). PAF 2.3 for Mac was also known as MacPAR and Family Records. Newer versions of PAF for DOS can be run under OS X using, and Windows versions can be run under OS using. If you have a copy of Windows, you can also install a virtualization program like,,.
Free audio mixer for mac. What do you think, good, bad, things you consider important that I should include in the application? Do you think it is worth while or a waste of my time?
• Similar handling of notes and sources – with some improvements, such as spell checking of notes. • If you want, you can use the same file, without converting. You can still send files to your family members who continue to use PAF. We have added some of the most requested features, such as: • Several new charts and reports, including a descendant chart.
Biggest Pro: Professional data research has been combines with many years of individual research to make this the most effective and easiest program to follow and use in identifying famiily group sheets, individual data and pedigree sheets Biggest Con: I have not found any excedpt it’s stopp[ed being offering by the LDS Chruch! Personal Ancestral File (PAF) Review by ann, Jan 3, 2018 Rating I have been using PAF since its beginning and have and will continue to use it until no computer will any longer support it. I just finished copying PAF5 to my new computer running the newest version of Windows10 and it runs beautifully and even faster than on my old computer. The important thing is you must continuely make new gedcom files as you update your genealogy data. Then often upload the latest PAF gedcom file into a commercial software program of your choice. Some like RootsMagic and Legacy are 2 programs that even allow you to import your PAF file into their programs.
• • Built in searches for Ancestry.com, FamilySearch and other online resources. • The ability to on a single master file with extended family. • For LDS users, the ability to update all ordinance data with a single action. We are confident you will agree with us that Ancestral Quest is the easiest software to use for current PAF users. Welcome Home!
First and Foremost with FamilySearch Ancestral Quest is certified by FamilySearch to share and collaborate with Family Tree, being certified for Tree Share, Sources, Discussions, Change History, LDS Support, PAF Compatibility, Memories Write, and FamlySearch Hinting. No other software has received more certifications than AQ. Ancestral Quest is the only 1 Tree Share certified software capable of exchanging data between PAF 5 data and FamilySearch Family Tree. Ancestral Quest was the first desktop family tree program to be certified to access, update and sync with the family tree database of New FamilySearch (NFS), won the 'Most Comprehensive Syncing' award, and has provided users with exceptional abilities to share data with both nFS and Family Tree ever since. Additional UNIQUE 1 features of AQ when working with FamilySearch Family Tree Ancestral Quest not only meets the minimum requirements for Tree Share certification, it allows you to share notes with Family Tree and also provides these other features that you will ONLY find in AQ: • Unlink Families in Family Tree • Share Source Field Details • Continue to see extra opinions from nFS to learn more about these features. Wasn’t PAF a great program?
The attached screenshot shows what fonts look like without freetype2. Note the shifted tabs, and the missing text on the confirmation window.
• Ability to sort the Name List on any field. AQ received an award from FamilySearch for the 'Best Listing Tool' for this feature. • To Do items and Research Manager/Log. • Historical.
I wonder if perhaps that might work to simplify the libfreetype2 issues. Also, on the LInux side, I find if I open PAF's help viewer (the yellow question mark) and navigate around to several places in the document, then use my window manager's menu to close the help viewer (but keep PAF's window open), PAF will stall for a few seconds and then blow up with an unhandled page fault. (The help window didn't work at all on the Linux side until recently, and it has had unhandled page fault issues with some Wine versions since then.). I'm one of the AppDB maintainers on the Linux side. One thing that helped the Linux side is to install the Unicode font that comes with the All-Languages flavor of PAF.

I am in the process of trying to decide if I want to write a iMac genealogy program that is geared toward the LDS community. I have been a programmer for 40 years with VB experience. I am in the process of working with RealBasic to see if I think I can do this project using RB. I would appreciate any comments on this project.
Selections include inclusion (+), exclusion (-) and intersection (*) of the set of people meeting the criteria with those already tagged. Consider PAWriter to be a possible next step in the development of Mac PAF had its develpment not been discontinued after release 2.3.1, i.e., 'what might have been.'
In fact all of the genealogy programs for the Mac do not have any support for LDS with the exception of storing the data you enter. Nothing like you find in RootsMagic, Legacy or other Windows programs. For non LDS Reunion it is a good program. If there were an API where you could pass data between Reunion and FamilyInsight this would answer one of my concerns. Just my rambling. I am running virtualbox on my Mac and have both RootsMagic and Legacy installed and running under VirtualBox. RootsMagic seems to run better with network files than Legacy but both are good genealogy programs.
Without libfreetype2, the fonts will be choppy and ugly (but it will still work) 3) Download PAF from FamilySearch.org 4) The PAF installer should have the Darwine Platypus icon, and you should be able to just double click it to install it! Running PAF Wine programs get installed into the folder /Users/youUserName/.wine/drive_c/Program Files The easiest way to run PAF is to make a symlink to it in the Applications folder. Open a terminal and enter. Code: ln -s ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/FamilySearch/Paf5/paf5.exe /Applications/paf5.exe You will then be able to double click the PAF icon in your Applications folder Optional -- Installing FreeType2 Using Fink is the easiest way to do this. Fink will ask you for your Admin password several times.

The generated report files include genealogical dictionaries, registers, ahnentafels and lineages-such as appear on this site-as well as some interesting text files and pedigree charts. PAWriter also provides flexible selection of subsets of people in a file by 'tagging' them (marking them as members of the subset) using a host of selection criteria.
The Windows versions of PAF have been available for 14 years, since June of 1999. They have served you well, but it is time to move on. Did you know that the Windows versions of PAF were created from code provided to FamilySearch by Incline Software in 1999? PAF 4 was nearly identical to Ancestral Quest (AQ) version 3, except for the different name and a few other minor variations. PAF 5 went through some additional changes before its final release in 2002. Over the years, Incline Software has continued to improve upon the software. You will feel right at home using favorite features such as: • The same look and feel for most screens and processes.

They are hid away in the menus so some people are not aware that they are part of the program. Have you tried using the pedigree views. I agree it would be better to have a full function program, but it is at least one option for Mac useres to sync with nFS.

The PAF help file's text (not shown) appears skewed and is nearly illegible. Thanks, Michael Attachments (78.62 KiB) Downloaded 319 times. Tsebsietxis wrote:I have menu fonts but the PAF display font is just squares Has anybody any suggestions please? Using either your familiarity with PAF or by looking at a working copy on Windows, get the preferences screen up and change the fonts that are used. The menus should work despite the messed up fonts, and when you choose a new font and apply your changes, the text areas should become visible. Edit: Did you get the freetype2 libraries installed and linked as in the optional section? The optional part of it is because you don't *have* to, but if you don't you will have to change the font.
(I recommend picking Windows XP as the Windows version). 4.) File - Open in Crossover and find your Paf5EnglishSetup.exe in your Downloads folder. 5.) Follow the directions in the Paf 5 installer. THEN from then on, each time you want to use Paf: 1.) Open Crossover. 2.) Go to the Programs menu and look for Family Search - Paf 5. 3.) ENJOY using PAF without having to buy Windows!:-D NOTE: I am not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or an employee of Codeweavers. I am just a genealogy enthusiast who happens to have a lot of LDS friends and family who got me started on this software long ago.
I wonder if perhaps that might work to simplify the libfreetype2 issues. On Linux that did help:-) When I first installed PAF on Linux all the fonts were Tamil fonts. How could I test that? Does PAF install it by default? The intaller I ran is called 'PAF5EnglishSetup.exe', but had Chinese, English, German, Japanese, Korean and Swedish as language options.
– I believe some work is being done in regards to LDS information, in ohmiGene. (older version, for MacOS classic). The following information is outdated/links are broken, the project is shut down, but it’s maintained for posterity: Updated for PAF for Mac LDS information for PAF for Mac users: For those still using this old classic program, I’ve posted an updated Temple list here: Download TempleList.zip or TempleList.sit and expand it, you should get a file called “Temple List” Make a backup copy of your old “Temple List” file in your PAF folder, and replace it with the new Temple List file. The new temples should be available the next time you restart Family Records. Logan Allred A – to give you a background. – No longer in development.
I made sure I made several backups of the program as I intend using as long as I’m able. Make sure you save (gedcom) and back up your tree regularly Biggest Pro: Good plain views, no problems so support is not needed but I have a help pdf file too Biggest Con: None that I can think of.
I got it here: (At the bottom of his post) I also mirrored it on my own site here: 2) Open the dmg, and copy the entire Darwine folder to your Applications folder 2.1) I ran one of the programs in their 'Sample WineLib Applications' folder. The first time Darwine runs, it needs to configure some things. I'm not sure if this step is needed, or if it'll happen when you run the PAF installer. 2.2) Optional, but recomended -- Install libfreetype2 -- See instructions below.
Probably once or twice for each operation. 1) Download the Fink package manager here: You want the latest Binary Installer 2) Open the DMG and run the installer package 3) Open the FinkCommander folder in the DMG and drag-and-drop Fink Commander into your Applications folder. That's great you got it working. I'm one of the AppDB maintainers on the Linux side. One thing that helped the Linux side is to install the Unicode font that comes with the All-Languages flavor of PAF.
I would appreciate any guidance in this area. By the way, I went to the SourceForge link posted here and there were no projects available for download. Was I going about it the wrong way? Roger wrote:I have tried using it but you must use a gedcom so it is still awkward on a Mac. It would really be nice to have it interfaced to something like Reunion. FamilyInsight does have pedigree views as well as individual views, unless the Mac version is different.
The thing is, we all got PAF for free. Computer folks reading here will agree that the price for commercial software is VERY high per year. The LDS folks probably found that it was too expensive to maintain a knowledgeable programming staff. Biggest Pro: Simple interface Biggest Con: Slightly incorrectly formatted word processing output.
If you are looking for a modern successor that runs under Mac OS X, consider. If you are doing LDS Temple Work, or are interested in doing it, please check our page to view applications that support this kind of genealogy work. Several of the genealogy applications listed below have been updated or have major/new releases available, and this information will be updated (Feb/Mar 2015), however if an application is listed as supporting certain LDS features, newer versions should continue supporting such features. I liked having it because no one could make changes on it like they do on Family Search. Recently I lost all of my data on PAF. I am crushed.
