That's how it works and cannot be changed. The solution is to change the power saver settings from whatever they are to never (and I'd suggest if it is a laptop plugging in the AC power to make sure the battery doesn't run down and cause a shutdown or sleep mode or whatever before the scan finishes despite the power saver settings - since you don't want to set battery to never and have the system crash hard when the battery runs dry). Then to switch all you need is to change the plan rather than reconfigure the settings each time you run the scan and then after it is completed (or just prior to and after a scheduled scan).

When the scheduled time for a scan occurs, McAfee SecurityCenter begins to monitor your computer for activity. If no keyboard or mouse activity occurs for 10 minutes, SecurityCenter then monitors for CPU usage. If CPU usage remains under 10% for 10 seconds, the scheduled scan will begin.

This is done on Windows 8.1 with McAfee Anti-Virus 16.8 (I'll be trying this on my windows 7 PC later and will report back) McAfee 16.8 includes a command line scanner that can be launched from the Windows Task Scheduler - this allows you so set up a scheduled task and have it wake up the PC and because it was scheduled by windows, it will complete BEFORE the system is allowed to sleep again. For those who have never setup a task before, it is really quite easy, but there are a lot of options and settings - so it looks complex. Below I've detailed (in text, because I'm too lazy to do screen shots) all the info I used to set this up.

Need to update: I called webroot today and they help me too. While I was checking the chdsk the computer was not finding some errors. When wonderful Johnny ran the computer in Safe Mode the computer showed some errors and began the repairs.and guess what? Bingo.errors were found and fixed. Then remotely he uninstalled and reinstalled the wr program and scanned the computer again.the feeling was great when I saw the scanning screen passing the 67% percent of scanning. (That was the point were the computer was freezing!

If certain application is running at background (such as Defrag) after 30 minutes without user operating, the monitor will be turned off but the application is still running until it completes. Then, the hard drive will be turned off and the system enter in Sleep Mode completely. The symptom is by default. If you would like to keep monitoring the status of defrag or scan, you should set the time longer than 30 minutes. Thanks, Novak.

I experienced the same problem, but I wonder why in windows XP/Vista there is not such issue (I usually set monitor off after 5 mins and sleep after 30 mins), and it can finish the virus scanning/defragging (which last at least 2-4h) then enter sleep mode; however in windows 7 it will 'force' sleep after 30 mins thus interrupt in the middle of scanning/defragging (after resume from sleep it can see virus scanning/defrag is in the middle of running). Its quite annoying, I can just extend the sleep time longer than the expect scanning/defragging time, any other solution? I agree with the majority of complaints about this issue; Windows 7 is supposed to be the operating system that knows what's happening with the resources; if a resource is in use, don't interrupt a process that could potentially cause a system failure. Why has no-one from Microsoft addressed this issue?
